  1. Be proactive

We are in charge of our lives; we chose the script by which to live our lives. Reactive people take a passive approach and they believe the world is happening to them. The author believes that proactive people take responsibility of their lives, and to be highly effective you must take responsibility of you life too.

  • Begin with the end in mind

Start with a clear destination or goal in mind. What do you want to achieve? With clear destination in mind we can make decision and take steps that will lead to the right direction.

  • Put first things first

Prioritize between what is important and what is urgent. In order to maintain discipline we must have the will power to do something we do not want to do in order achieve our goal. Remember, not everything that is urgent is important.  The author states “the key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.

  • Think win-win

Think in a way that both parties win. Agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying to both parties. Covey states “to go for win-win, you not only have to be nice, you have to be courageous’.

  • Seek to understand, then to be understood

Before we can offer solution or advice, you need to actively listen and deeply understand the other person. Covey “You’ve spent years of your life learning how to read, write and speak. But what about listening?’

  • Synergize

Synergy allows us to create new alternatives and open new responsibilities. Synergy allows us as a group to collectively agree to ditch the old script and write new ones. Covey writes without doubt, you have to leave the comfort zone of base camp and comforts an entirely new and unknown wilderness.

  • Sharpen the saw

To be highly effective, we must devote the time to renewing ourselves physically, spiritually, mentally, and socially. Continuous learning and renewal allows to synergistically increasing our ability to practice each habit. Covey writes “not a day goes by that we can’t at least serve one other human being by making deposit of unconditional love.

Derek first graduated from WSU in 2011 with a bachelors in Exercise Science and then again in 2014 with a Doctorates in Physical Therapy from WSU. 5 ways to manage your time better as an entreprenuer

Once you are an entrepreneur, you are your own boss and no one to tell you what to do. That’s why time Management is so important. Remember the old saying that time is money and you want to spend it well. This even truer when you are a Business Owner. Poor time management can cost you money and customers. Below are a few points that can help you achieve your time management goals.

1. Have a plan.

To manage your time better, you should always have a plan of what you want to achieve. But do not spend too much planning that you never get to do what you need to do. The plans do not need to be perfect.

2. Write a to-do list

Failure to write your plan is trying to fail. Make sure you as always have an idea of what you want to achieve. Having a to-do list helps you stay on track. Also, make sure to cross done tasks and add others as the day progresses. Crossing the list gives you a sense of achievement.

3. Follow to do list

If you are not going to following your to-do list, then there is no need for having one. If you make a plan, and you have written it down, then it is as essential for you to follow it.

4. Review your to-do list occasionally

It is always important to review your do list as often as possible and adjust accordingly. When done cross them off and if some tasks were left, add them to the next day to do list. Make sure you keep a journal with a date, and you have a to-do list book – only one book.

5. At the end of the day and make a list for tomorrow

At the end of the day make sure to review your to-do list. If you completed all the tasks for the day, then pat yourself on the shoulder and then make a new one for tomorrow. Remember; not to be busy for the sake of being busy and make sure to outsource and delegate some tasks to others.


Finally; Leave yourself time to observe your business, time to think, time to read, and time to do whatever else you like.

How to Market your business without spending any money


Every time I met people who want to market their business; they always say that they have no money or they don’t know where to start.  So I went ahead and thought of ways to market a business without spending any money.

1. Friends, family, and relatives

If  I was opening new restaurants, the first people I will invites are my friends and family to come and sample my food. I will remind them to invite a friend or two. This is the number one way of getting the word out without spending any money.

2. Facebook

I Know you have a few friends on Facebook. How about posting your product on Facebook and requesting your facebook to support you.  If they like your product or services, they might end up buying from you. Also, Make sure to post your services or products or facebook marketplace or Facebook local groups.

3. Instagram

I think that Instagram is an excellent platform for showcasing your work. I know a carpenter who has more than 48,000 followers. Sometimes he posts before and after pictures, Sometimes he posts as he is working and Sometimes he just post unique pieces. People love his work so much that he continues to expand his business.

4. LinkedIn

I love Linkedin as a professional because I know that other professionas are there, and we can connect on a professional level. I have asked people for meeting on LinkedIn, and people have asked me for a meeting whether face to face or online. I have made many connections on LinkedIn. It may look boring but pretty of opportunities there.

5. Meetup group

There are so many meetup groups. These are groups for people who share similar interests. It is also a chance to connect with other entrepreneurs. I know a meetup group that markets the other members. I have even been there and gotten a referral.

6. Talk to anybody and everybody.

I always talk to anybody and everybody because I may never know who needs my services or my products.

Why start your own Business?

Why would you want to start your own business?

1. Talent

There is no better way to showcase your expertise than when you have your own business. You can showcase all your skills.  For example, a chef can showcase new meals she or he thought about at night. In this case, when working for someone else that might be difficult because you have to ask for approval which they may approve or deny.

2. Deciding on your financial future

When you start your own business, there will be no checks coming unless you put in the work and the more paid work you do, the more profit you make, the more money you make.  So in a sense, you decide how much you want to make.

3. You will be helping the country to create more jobs.

Remember President Kennedy inaugural statement ” ask not what your country can do for you -ask what you can do for your country”  you will be doing something for your country by providing job thus improving the quality of others, and making the country better.

4.  You will be joining an elite class

This comes without saying, but you will be joining the elite group of entrepreneurs; the steve jobs,  Bill Gates, Donald Trump, the owner of the coffee shop down the street and many other entrepreneurs.

5. You will get out of your comfort zone.

Can you imagine when you are 80 or 90 years old, and you are thinking to yourself what could have happened if you started that business.
